Who is FSJ?
Something about his writing style leads me to believe the man behind the mask is Mark Morford of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Thumbs Up for Roger Ebert
Richard Corliss has a far more eloquently stated column on Mr. Ebert:
We tend to take for granted any pleasure, however acute, that is offered to us regularly; the gift becomes routine. Only when it's removed do we realize how precious it was. And if, in some real-life Hollywood ending, the gift is restored, we can again savor the privilege, this time more acutely.
Roger Ebert, who's 65 this week, began writing on movies 40 years ago, mainly as a critic for the Chicago Sun-Times, but syndicated to some 200 newspapers. He's created a body of work — virtually all of it available on his handsome, helpful website — that is as broad, deep, reliable and rewarding as it is insanely prolific. I'll take a blind stab and say Roger has written more than 10,000 individual movie reviews, plus another 3,000 or so essays.

All Worked Up & Selfish
Some people will always remember where they were when Diana died or Lennon was shot or the Shuttle exploded. But none of those events every really resonated for me beyond the feeling of damn... that sucks, does anyone have any cookies left? I know, really deep of me.
But today while reading the latest article by Roger Ebert I realized that when this man dies I am going to feel a profound sense of loss. I can barely comprehend the idea of reading reviews and commentary from someone else and being entertained, challenged and amused in quite the same way.
I am wishing now that I had realized this earlier. I would have made a point of attending his Overlooked Film Festival later this month. As it is I hope he is still here next April for another round.

Glasgow 2006
I finally posted my photos from a trip to Glasgow to setup our new office in December of last year. I haven't gotten around to captioning them but I will soon.

Warren Ellis' Annual St Patrick’s Day Message
If you want to celebrate St Pat’s today, eat a raw potato, build a house out of peat and get yourself shot by an Englishman.
And guess what? If you were born in America, you’re not Irish, you’re fucking American. Deal with it.
(Though I still advise American tourists in Europe to tell people they’re Canadian at all times.)

Post 9/11 Anti-Terror Laws Struck Down
Two controversial measures in the federal Anti-Terrorism Act will disappear from the law books after a vote Tuesday night in the House of Commons that marked the first major political test for Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion.
In a vote of 159 to 124, the combined opposition defeated a Conservative minority government motion that would have renewed the extraordinary legal powers of authorities to detain and interrogate terrorism suspects.
The article goes on to note that the laws were never used. See also the CBC coverage.

Retro Night
Monday was Audra's 29th Birthday. I took her out to Louis' Pizza and to McArthur Bowling Lanes afterwards (both on McArthur Ave near the Vanier Parkway).
Louis' Pizza is extremely tasty. I think they must use egg in their crust and the sauce has this hint is sweetness every once in a while. Highly recommended for the food. Ignore the decor if 1970's wood paneling and old diner seats aren't your style.
I had never 10-pinned before so it was quite the experience. The prices were 2.50/person/game or 10/person/hour. The shoes were in great condition and there was a good variety of balls to choose from. We had a great time and I bowled a miserable 86 and 89. The only sour note was that they only take cash. This forces you to use the ghetto bank machine just to the left of the cash desk. Bring some money and avoid ID theft.

Tapping the Commons
Update:Darth Luau linked up several other community assisted videos. I hadn't realized that these sort of vids were a full blown phenomenon already. Does this mean I should be watching more Much? Am I now out of it? Was I ever with it? I feel like Grandpa Simpson.

Of course this is mostly in response to the recent European brouhaha over the itunes monopoly.
